SANCTUARY GARDEN
The Sanctuary Garden is an inspirational outdoor classroom and performance space for Stockbridge Primary School.
The project has involved artists, storytellers, poets, pupils, staff, parents and the extended community of Stockbridge in creating and designing the garden.
The Mosaic
The Garden
The ground space is covered by an extensive mosaic constructed of slate and inlaid glass flanked by benches. The surrounding border is densely planted with dwarf fruit trees (hardy peach and apple) seasonal berries (blackberries, blueberries, strawberries etc.) and edible scented herbs interspaced with wild flowers.
"Many children long for a bit of peace and quiet... to be enclosed in greenery... to think and plan.... to chat and share secrets..... others want a serene vantage point to watch or simply a place to seek shade."
Here are some children enjoying the adventure playground. The classes take it in turns to use the equipment to make sure everyone has a turn.
